The Man Behind the Divas

At the age of one, Robert Monegan discovered there was more to do with a crayon than just chew on it. Never taking a single art lesson, this self-taught illustrator continues to draw whatever comes from his vivid imagination. Showing early signs of having a musical ear, Robert started both piano and flute lessons at five. This gave him years of performing in recitals, talent shows and local concerts. But that wasn't enough! Robert also wanted to be an actor. First moving to Los Angeles and later to New York, this path led him to (many) years of empty auditions, bit parts, and no money. Eventually, Robert wrote, produced and performed in his Off Broadway one-man show entitled My Voodoo Dolls. This personal dark comedy about venting your anger was a big achievement…for a while.

Back to drawing pictures! Robert wanted to do art that combined his cynical sense of humor with his love for glamour. Influenced by his life-long fascination with pop culture of the 1950's, 60's and 70's (Valley of the Dolls, The Flintstones, Charlie's Angels), and icons from Hollywood's Golden Era (Marilyn Monroe, Joan Crawford, Elizabeth Taylor), Robert created Glam Divas.

In his own words: "So much of myself goes into Glam Divas...especially my smart-ass remarks! Yes, it's that personal."

Robert currently resides in New York City.
